02.21.3189 ((date added by Sher)) When J'im had daydreamed about what the day that he impressed a dragon would be like, he had never ever imagined he would be in the infirmary with his dragon for the day. If he was hurt at all, it was something sexy, not a claw swipe across his hip and arse. He had dreamed he would make a triumphant entrance to the feast, because no matter what color chose him, he would be the winner. He would be deliriously happy, people would be congratulating him and his parents would be there. Werther they were happy or upset didn't really matter. Instead, he and his bronze had been cleaned, stitched and bandaged by healers. He had stitches on his hip and arse, which was NOT sexy and his bronze hatchling, after getting beat up by a blue hatchling was getting a lot of scratches cleaned and numbweed put on. They assured him the hide would heal cleanly, no scars or flaws. Yeah. Nothing visible. Vizioth was just the bronze who'd been beaten up on his hatching day. The bronze who didn't fight back. J'im understood why he hadn't fought, mostly. He sort of agreed with it. But one good kick? to give back some of the damage would have been alright. It sure as shards would have looked better! But no, of course that hadn't happened. To put it in a way that J'im surely would not, J'im was pouting and feeling sorry for himself. The only reason the healer was tolerating this behavior at all was because he had waited to start until his hatchling was asleep. She must be getting old, the Weyr healer thought, because adolescent males were not cute when they pouted, even if they were normally what she would consider cute.

Ol'ver shook his head as he made his way to the infirmary. It was a nice surprise when he had been woken up to the announcement of the hatching, but that was certainly one of the most interesting hatchings he'd ever been to. "You're sure there was no other injuries, Monk? Everything seemed to be happening at once." Ol'ver asked his bronze. "I am positive. The wounds were not bad either. Things could have been worse, we could have lost the little gold."
That sure was a good point. Thank Faranth that hadn't happened. Sunset needed a new queen and a hatching didn't need sorrow. Well, not that the tension from the sports were any better, but the fledglings looked healthy enough. Ol'ver had heard tales of a sport dragon that existed long, long ago, but he would have never guessed that any would be born at his weyr, let alone two of them.
Even though he wasn't really needed in the infirmary, Ol'ver decided to go check on the hurt weyrling riders. It would make him feel better and maybe help him to think a little clearer. He entered the infirmary and saw the boy that had impressed the bronze laying on one of the cots. Ol'ver smiled as he walked up to him and the weyr healer. "Good day. My name's Ol'ver, rider of bronze Monketh. Just wanted to check see how you were doing and give you congratulations." He said to J'im and stuck his hand out to shake the boys hand in the traditional hand shake of riders.

"Thank you sir," J'im said politely, returning the clasp.
Ow, shard it! Did every move have to involve the muscles and skin of his hip and butt? The numbweed was wearing off and the thing throbbed. The healer wasn't going to give him fellis juice, she had explained he needed a clear head in case his dragon woke up.
So stinky nasty embarrassing numbweed applications it was, and he was putting off calling for more until he had to. There had been way to much attention paid to his butt and not in a good way. He'd rather hurt for a while.
What was he supposed to say? Oh yeah. "Vizioth will be fine. I'm told there will be no permanent damage and even no scarring." There. proprieties and manners and duty all satisfied. Hopefully bronzerider Ol'ver would leave now.

After K'lar got Carmith to sleep, he hesitated at the exit to the Weyrling Barracks. He definitely needed to go to the feast. His mother would want to talk to him for a few minutes, and he had even seen his father in the stands. He had only met the man a few times in his life, but he had apparently come to see his son Impress.
K'lar turned toward the infirmary instead, though. With Carmith asleep, he should be able to get away with approaching J'im. Especially if Vizioth was also asleep. He would make it to the feast a little later, but he needed to make sure the other weyrling and dragonet were ok. He would try to confirm that Ophelia's injury was minor, too, but he knew J'im had been hurt worse.
He peeked into the room, and saw the older bronzerider talking to J'im. K'lar hesitated, then tapped on the outside of the door. He got into plenty of trouble, but he always took responsibility, and accepted the consequences. (Sometimes the consequences were almost as much fun as the original trouble.) This time, it was his dragonet that caused the problem, and it was a bigger problem than he had ever caused on his own. K'lar still needed to face the consequences himself, since Carmith would never be able to understand why he had to.
"J'im?" he said, just after the other boy had spoken to the bronzerider. He was glad to overhear that Vizioth would not be scarred, and he knew that dragons were better than humans at forgetting pain once it ended. "I wanted to be sure..." he trailed off. He wanted to be sure that his dragon hadn't seriously hurt the other boy. He wanted to be sure that the other boy didn't hate him now, because K'lar might occasionally annoy people, but noone had ever hated him before. He wanted to be sure that the other boy had visitors while he was hurt and the feast was going on. "that you'll be ok," he finally finished.
Julim had been from another Weyr, hadn't he? K'lar wondered if any of his family had made it to the Hatching. Maybe he could make sure they made it to the infirmary?
"Do you want me to bring you anything from the feast?" he added, hesitantly. It was always easier to make reparations with actions than with words. At least while Carmith was asleep, maybe K'lar could do any fetching and carrying that J'im needed. Obviously it wouldn't undo the injury, but at least J'im would know he was sincerely upset that it had happened.

"Please, just call me Ol'ver. I am very relieved to know Vizioth will be alright. He's a fine young beast, a sure asset to Sunset." He gave the boy an encouraging smile. The healer side of him wanted to look at the wound to assess it for himself, but he knew that Sitney would have done a good job with it and he didn't want to embarrass the boy. It wasn't often that a bronzerider was a healer on the side and some found it a bit...unsettling when he asked to exam them. It was a reaction that he never fully understood.
"Most people don't realize that fledgling claws can be that sharp right after hatching. They sure can do some damage though. You'll be just fine, the would will heal before you know it." He said just as there was a knock on his door. Ol'ver leaned to look and saw it was another of the weyrlings. "His is the blue that inflicted the damage to the bronze's rider." Monketh supplied for him. "Well, it looks like you have visitors. I'll be around if you need me. Cheer up, lad. You impressed!" He said giving the boy a gentle pat on the shoulder, making sure to not move him too much and cause his wound to ache. Then, the bronzerider left the room given a courteous greeting and congratulations to K'lar as well. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Eavan didn't know if J'im would want visitors or not, but she felt like she should see how he was doing. That injury had to have hurt something fierce. She had to make some time to go see him after the hatching, but didn't regret missing some of the feast.
As she walked in, the bronzerider Ol'ver was leaving. She gave him a polite nod and he congratulated her. He also told her where to find the young bronzerider and she thanked him. From J'im's room she could hear talking. As she got closer she could tell it was K'lar's voice she heard speaking.
"Knock knock." She said as she pushed the door open a bit. "I hope I'm not interrupting anything important. Wanted to make sure you were okay, J'im. Hi K'lar." She was finding hard to call the boys by their new names, but she'd get use to it eventually.

How was he supposed to be mad at K'lar when he acted like this? Because he wasn't mad at the guy, he was mad that he was hurt, and Vizioth was hurt and he wasn't at the feast getting lots of attention. J'im blinked, realizing just how much of a spoiled brat that had sounded like.
"It wasn't your fault, I was just the one that got the claws and not the wing blow. We were both mixed up in it. And yeah, I think I'd like some food, but you should be enjoying the feast. Someone who didn't impress can bring me food."
He was surprised to see Eavan too. "Speaking of people who should be enjoying their feast! Queenrider, why aren't you getting all the praise and congratulations?" He really hoped that hadn't sounded bitter. He hadn't meant it too, or at least he wasn't bitter at her. He just had expected to enjoy his impression day. This was JUST NOT FUN AT ALL.
"Sorry. Sorry! I'm just pouting and I shouldn't be. I know that, I really do. But I've got stitches in my hip and my butt and I can't have any fellis juice and I didn't expect to spend my impression night in the infirmary."
He ws starting to feel like he was a horrible person.

K'lar looked down embarrassed, when J'im pointed out that it wasn't his fault. "It was my dragon's fault, though," he mumbled, and he had always known that riders were responsible for controlling their dragons' behavior. Of course, he hadn't Impressed Carmith yet when he attacked the bronze and hurt J'im, but he still felt like it was his job to help a little.
He shook his head at the idea that someone who didn't Impress should bring the food. They would just end up feeling like they were supposed to be servants because they hadn't gotten a dragon yet. "Is there anything you don't like or shouldn't eat?" he asked cheerily, as if he hadn't heard that part of J'im's comment. It wasn't a big deal to come back here with a plate, and it would make him feel a little better. J'im should at least get some of the great party food even if he couldn't go show off to the crowd.
"Hello, goldrider," he said to Eavan, a little cheekily. It seemed like she was already taking on her role by being here to check on J'im. Of course, it could also be all the flirting the two had done, that made her concerned about him, but K'lar really thought it was more the goldrider thing.
"I think you're allowed to pout a little when you're in pain. At least if your dragon's asleep," K'lar pointed out. He really had lucked out, with only a vague red mark across his ribs, and no pain when he moved. There was probably a little bruising at the skin, since it hurt if he pressed against the mark a little, but there was no damage deeper than that so he was ok.

Eavan smiled sweetly at the two boys, but a blush of embarrassment made her cheeks red. She was going to have to get use to being called 'goldrider' or 'queenrider', but for the moment she still couldn't fully wrap her mind around the fact that she was a goldrider. "The festival can wait, it's not like all those people are going to go any where any time soon."
She wasn't horribly looking forward to dealing with the people's indignation and skepticism over the two mutants. Hopefully, the number of people that were disturbed wouldn't be too many. "K'lar's right. You have plenty of reason to be a little pouty. No one ever expects to spend the time right after their impressing in the infirmary. I'm just happy you didn't get more hurt. Either of you." She included K'lar in the statement.
"If it makes you feel any better, most girls like scars no matter where they are." Eavan gave him a wink. She hoped that the comment would make him laugh at least a little, or at least take his mind off the fact that he was in the infirmary. "Is there anything I can do for you? Bring you food, more pillows, numbweed?"
