In our canon, firelizards are not rare - but neither is it rare for a flit to go feral. We understand that players love firelizards, so we are going to make it easy to acquire one.
If you want a Random firelizard egg for a current or future character, you can earn one in any of the following ways (this list may be added to at a later date):
~Complete your first 25 in-character posts (send a PM to Sunset Admin and the dice will roll- this is a one-time per player giveaway)
~Win a contest (size and color of the egg will be posted)
~Participate in a "Major" contest (random winner will be selected by dice roll)
~Obtain one during a Weyr-wide Egg Hunt event
~Buy one from the Shop
If you don't want a specific color of flitter (for example, if you don't like blues), please make it known; we aren't going to keep throwing firelizards at you if you conveniently let them go feraljust to get around the two-flit limit. Oh, we didn't mention a two-flit limit? Well, there is one, and it's not to be mean. Promise! It's to keep things manageable and fair. One character may have two flitters, tops, until the restriction is lifted. (If we decide to lift it.)
((EDIT - Sher has decided not to have an initial flitter limit. If somebody wants to play an entire fair with one character, let 'em. I recently saw a very talented player keep up with five at once, so I am no longer skeptical!))
If you don't want a flit at all and you acquire an egg, you may 'sell' us back the egg before it hatches. That means you can't just find out what's inside it, decide you don't want it, and sell it to us. As mentioned in the previous paragraph, we will take into consideration that you don't want a specific color. You may not get the exact one you DO want, but we will guarantee that you won't get the color you DON'T want.
An important note about clutchers: The number and contents of the eggs will be fairly rolled by Admin, but if the owner of the clutching flitter wishes, they are permitted to 'theme' the clutch and write / color the eggs and the hatchlings. Just be reasonable, no Mary Sue or Gary Lou clutches please.
That being said, we will touch briefly on the types of firelizards currently around. Average sizes are presented rather than ranges as with dragons; queens may be the size of small blues, and blues may be the size of bronzes. It all depends on the individual.
GOLDS
Average size: 34 inches long
The queens. Similar to dragons, these are the 'big mama' clutchers. Unlike dragons, they have always been able to chew firestone and produce clutches. Queens are typically very bossy.
Intelligence - They are easy enough to train as long as they get something out of it. They may know names of many familiar people (and recognize up to thirty on sight), up to 8 verbal signals, and up to 8 hand signals.
Golds produce between 3-8 eggs. They will Rise twice per Turn, but there is a 25% chance they will go to a secret location to clutch. If they hatch without being found, their babies go wild, not just feral. The good news is that if the missing clutch is found IC, the entire clutch will be guaranteed to hatch, with no duds. Only golds produce gold eggs.
BRONZES
Average size: 31 inches long
The largest males. They are expected (but not guaranteed) to catch golds, because they have more stamina than the smaller fellows. Bronzes are typically highly vocal. Fully mature and ready to mate at nine IC months.
Intelligence - These boys are as easy to train as golds, as long as the reward catches their interest. They may know names of quite a few familiar people (and recognize up to twenty-five on sight), up to 6 verbal signals, and up to 6 hand signals.
BROWNS
Average size: 28 inches long
The middle sized male, these have a fair enough chance at catching a queen, but are more likely to catch a green. Browns are typically very observant. Fully mature and ready to mate at eight IC months.
Intelligence - These guys are more than willing to be trained, with or without treats, but it will take more repetition than with a bronze. They may know names of a few people (and recognize another twenty) and between 6 - 10 signals combined (verbal and gestures).
BLUES
Average size: 25 inches long
The smallest male, blues are highly unlikely to catch a gold, but they're almost guaranteed to catch greens. Blues are typically very mischievous. Fully mature and ready to mate at seven IC months.
Intelligence - These guys take a lot of patience to train, with or without treats, and even after they learn something they might make mistakes. They may know the name of their person (and recognize another fifteen) and between 4 - 8 signals combined (verbal and gestures).
GREENS
Average size: 22 inches long
The smallest female, greens are the secondary clutchers. They sometimes move too fast to consider what is going to happen. Greens are typically super curious. Fully mature and ready to mate at six IC months.
Intelligence - These gals are the hardest to train, sometimes being downright rebellious just for the sake of being naughty. Even after they learn something they will probably make mistakes. They may know the name of their person (and recognize another ten) and between 2 - 6 signals combined (verbal and gestures).
Greens produce between 2 - 4 eggs. They will Rise four times per Turn, but there is a 75% chance they will go to a secret location to clutch. If they hatch without being found, their babies go wild, not just feral. The good news is that if the missing clutch is found IC, the entire clutch will be guaranteed to hatch, with no duds. Greens have an increased chance to produce Tiny Eggs.
